On January 28, one of the most important celebrations of the year for the automotive world began. Indeed, 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of Pirelli and the famous Italian manufacturer is celebrating in style! After an international countdown from China to Brazil and Times Square, the commemorative event took place at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, the city where it all began.
In addition to launching a new advertising campaign, the company also unveiled a range of projects celebrating Pirelli’s longevity. Even the Italian government got in on the act!
Celebrating the past… and the future!
To open the evening in style, four actors presented the history of Pirelli in the form of a dialogue between Leopoldo Pirelli and his father. Leopoldo’s grandson, Alberto Pirelli, was able to tell the story of the success of the company founded by his great-great-grandfather Giovanni Battista Pirelli.
It is true that, since 1872, the company has not stopped expanding, opening factories and expanding its market throughout Europe and the Americas. Today, eighteen Pirelli tire factories are located in twelve countries. The most beautiful is certainly the Settimo Torinese, designed by Renzo Piano, who was a guest at the Piccolo.
It was not only the history that was put forward, however, but also the innovative vision that has always driven the company. Today, more than 2,000 people, many of them from the Politecnico di Milano, work to improve the brand’s products. They are responsible for futuristic projects such as Cyber Tyre, a tire connected to sensors and capable of transmitting information in real time.
150 years of Pirelli, 150 years of quality
The people at Pirelli have a lot to be proud of. In addition to being at the forefront of innovation, the brand has maintained its prestigious status throughout its history. In the world of motorsports and luxury cars alike, the elongated P is synonymous with efficient tires! To this day, tires like the Cinturato P7 All-Season Plus or the PZero Corsa Asimmetrico are among the best on the market.
Their name will be officially linked forever to Italian history thanks to an initiative by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. To celebrate Pirelli’s excellence in the field of economy and production systems, a new stamp will be launched featuring the brand. From the national mint, there will also be three commemorative gold and silver coins available for the most devoted fans of Italian tires.
Congratulations to Pirelli, and long may there be 150 more!
