At the recent New York Auto Show, Cadillac executives took the opportunity to unveil the replacement car for the CTS sedan, the all-new Cadillac CT5, a car with inspired lines, unique design, which takes the refinement to another level …. And who rides on Michelin tires.

A choice that is easy to explain, says the chief engineer of the project, Mike Bride, because of the many tests done on the car, but also because of the facilities offered by Michelin for the kind of products that Cadillac needed.

Cadillac represents refinement and sophistication, an element that is increasingly close to the personality that the company wants to put forward. It was therefore necessary to find tires that met these requirements, while offering the necessary size and qualities required.

“We absolutely wanted flat or self-repairing tires. Sports profile tires, comfortable but especially quiet and efficient. We performed several tests, and Michelin tires were able to meet these requirements. In fact, the run-flat system is the one that appeared to us as the most efficient according to our tests “, explained Mr. Bride in an interview.

The new Cadillac CT5 offers either 19-inch run-flat or 18-inch self-repair wheels. “Another important detail, without loss of grip, is that the standard Michelin tires have also been less resistant to air pressure, which helps us reach our fuel consumption targets.” Mike Bride concludes.

A refined car

The new Cadillac CT5 marks the revival of the American brand. With its streamlined silhouette, a little like a Fastback, and its prominent grille, it appears as an imposing compact sedan. So imposing, in fact, that it can easily compete in size with established intermediate sedans.

To power this Cadillac CT5, two gasoline engines will be on the menu, either a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with a power of 237 horsepower and a torque of 258 lb-ft, or if you prefer, 350 newton-meters. Why this mention, because maybe you do not understand anything (we either …): Cadillac will now use this measure for the nomenclature of its vehicles. So here is CT5 350t.

The second engine is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 335 horsepower and 400 lb-ft, called 550T, it will only be equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission. A AWD system is also offered and probably standard in Canada.

The cabin is significantly more spacious than the CTS it replaces, especially in the rear where there is a good clearance for the legs. The bench is comfortable and offers lots of legroom but less headroom due to the lowered roofline.

Three variations will be offered: Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport. Each is defined by different themes, whether aesthetic or the group of options. The more luxurious variants are enriched with genuine wood and leather, material layouts, and distinctive body colors, while Sport is adorned with genuine carbon fiber, sport seats, brakes and shock absorbers. more efficient.

The Cadillac CT5 will make its appearance at dealerships this fall.
