July is the month of vacations. We all want to go on an adventure. At Blackcircles.ca, we share your love of discovery and the pleasure of riding. That’s why we’re presenting a series of articles this summer to help you discover the most beautiful roads in the country, province by province. Happy driving!

During your vacation this summer, Blackcircles.ca invites you to discover our country from coast to coast, as its motto says. After all, traveling is probably the best way to enjoy your tires! Today, we start in the far east of Canada, in a province that is sometimes overlooked, partly because of its island nature: Newfoundland.  With a history dating back to the Vikings, visiting Newfoundland is more than just a fishing trip!

Visit St. John’s

How can you pass through a province without visiting at least its capital? In addition to being the administrative seat of Newfoundland, it is also by far its largest city. The focal point of Newfoundland’s cultural life, this is where you’ll find the provincial museum and modern exhibition center, The Rooms, the magnificent St. John’s Basilica, the Quidi Vidi microbrewery and its glacier water beers, and even the Signal Hill National Historic Site.  Did you know that it was here that the first transatlantic radio transmission was received in 1901? On top of all that, the Argentia ferry is nearby!

The capital’s urban environment makes its roads perfect for environmentally friendly tires, like the Bridgestone Ecopia. Not only does their low rolling resistance significantly reduce fuel consumption in the city, they offer the perfect handling for narrow downtown roads.

L’Anse aux Meadows

Probably one of the most famous sites, it’s impossible to miss L’Anse aux Meadows, a Viking village dating back almost 500 years before Columbus’ voyages. We recommend that you spend the day there to discover its museum, its archaeological site and even the reconstruction of a Viking village right next door!

Trinity

To experience the real life of the residents of this maritime province, head to the picturesque village of Trinity, a few hours from the big city. A perfect blend of culture and nature, you’ll find as much country fare as breathtaking scenery. If you visit during the New Founde Lande Trinity Pageant, you can even experience a real trip back in time!

When leaving St. John’s, be prepared for a long drive as the village of Trinity is over 250km away! Make sure you have comfortable tires like the Pirelli Scorpion Verde so that you can drive smoothly and with confidence, without any hassle.

Gros Morne National Park

Nature lovers will probably want to head to the northernmost part of the island of Newfoundland, just off the coast of Labrador, to visit Gros Morne National Park. There, you can enjoy cruises on its peaceful waters, see unique rock formations and even go camping!

Important detail: Gros Morne National Park is quite remote! From the Channel-Port-aux-Basques ferry, you can expect at least a three hour drive! From St. John’s, it’s even more, with more than 650 km separating the two destinations. You’ll need tires that will hold up to the long drive, but also to the uncertain conditions at the park! For maximum protection, try an all-terrain tire like the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2.

And before you leave this beautiful island, where the spectacular scenery is punctuated by exceptional shorelines and icebergs just a few feet away, be sure to experience the Screech, which will make you an honorary Newfoundlander. Be careful, you’ll have to kiss a cod during the ceremony, but the experience is well worth it!
