And if your tire warns you of its wear?

And if your tire warns you of its wear?

As you know, nothing is more difficult to detect than the actual wear of your tires. Of course, all tires have markers that help you determine the correct height of the sole. But it is sometimes difficult, without calling on an expert, to have a correct vision of the thing. But a future technology may well resolve the case.

It is a Norwegian company that presents a brand new tire tread sensor. In fact, it is a small automatic wear sensor that would be available at low cost. Better yet, it meets environmental standards, is non-toxic, reliable and maintenance-free.

The best thing: it can be installed directly in new tires or easily adapted to any vehicle fitted with winter tires.

Telematics for all

The small sensor-battery combo is integrated into the tire tread so that when the tire has arrived approximately 1 mm above the legal limit, the wet cell battery is exposed and activated by ambient humidity. The resulting energy is used to power the radio frequency transmitter, alerting the driver.

But not just the driver. Using telematics, the small sensor can send a message to garage owners (or possibly Blackcircles.ca) advising that a tire needs to be replaced. The unit is fully resistant to mechanical stress and temperature variations of a tire. It is hermetically sealed and can remain dormant for many years before being activated.

The idea is not new but it is taking shape year after year. It is not yet known when the small sensor will be marketed. Or how much it may cost. But let’s bet that it will quickly become part of the standard equipment available for all vehicles!
