Start planning the changeover of your tires now
The question may seem amusing, or premature. But you must remember that in Quebec, and in other parts of the country, December 1 is now the deadline for mandatory tire changes.
That’s also why the CAA launched the official week of making appointments for winter tires. The initiative is designed to educate motorists about this, as the fall can quickly turn into winter as some parts of Canada have already experienced their first snowfall.
So it’s not the snow, the rain, the leaves, or the date that determine the moment to take action, but the temperature, since the summer tires or so-called “four seasons” lose of adhesion as soon as mercury falls below 7 ° C. The realistic date established in collaboration with The Weather Network, specifies the day when, on average, the maximum daytime temperature is below 7 ° C for each region. The realistic date corresponds to the deadline that should be respected to install its winter tires. But beware, this is only an average!
The dates vary from one region to another.
Obviously, each region differs. Within the same province, Quebec for example, this date varies from October 20 to November 10.
Between the provinces, the gap is even greater, with some regions rarely reaching cold temperatures before December. But take the time to check the average temperatures at home, and weigh your winter tires quickly. We are never too careful!
