The hasty heat wave that hit several regions of the country surprised more than one. For some, the vehicle was not quite in order, and the excessive heat caused some inconvenience (read here that I encountered some cars that overheated at the side of the road when the thermometer exceeded 30 degrees C).
Then there are those who don’t think about their tire. Unfortunately, I also came across these unlucky vehicle owners who were quietly waiting for the tow truck along the road with a broken tire. Remember: high mercury affects not only your mechanics but also your tires. That’s why, in summer, it is essential to take a frequent look at our tires, to avoid an unpleasant surprise.
Pressure galore
All the manufacturers, from Michelin to Pirelli, have established the ideal pressure for your tires with the car manufacturer. Consult the small table stuck in the door or the user manual. You will then have all the details.
You no longer drive on the original tires? No problem, just ask your installer what is the ideal tire pressure. By doing this check regularly, you will avoid unpleasant surprises.
Because under the effect of heat, your tire tends to swell. If you’ve already overinflated, you’re at risk of leaking or, worse, bursting, especially when travelling at highway speed. And take my word for it, a bursting tire is quite a shock to the driver.
Spare wheel
A small detail, do not forget to also check the pressure of your spare tire, even if it is only a reduced size. Nothing worse than breaking down because your spare tire is not inflated. Talk to the driver of the compact who waited 90 minutes for the tow truck along the highway at a beautiful 32 degrees Celsius!
So the best way: buy yourself a small pressure gauge. For a few dollars, and a few seconds at each refill, you may save yourself a lot of trouble!
