You've probably never heard of the company Volcon and that's quite normal! Before the recent announcement of their collaboration with BFGoodrich, I myself was not aware of the existence of this American company of all-electric off-road machines. On March 8, the Volcan All Terrain Utility Vehicle, the latest product of this alliance, will be seen for the first time at the Mint 400, an event sponsored by the tire company. This will be an opportunity for them to demonstrate several new features of the BFGoodrich ActivAir technology that promises to increase the range and security of tomorrow's electric vehicles.
Combining power and range
Often, when it comes to electric vehicles, the focus is on endurance and range preservation, with performance taking a back seat. However, in an off-road race, there is no question of limiting power and thus giving more chances to your opponents! The systems included in the BFGoodrich ActivAir are designed to give you the best of both worlds. From the suspension to the wheels, it provides real-time pneumatic control, which is especially useful on ever-changing terrain.
With all the information about the route such as elevation and different types of pavement, the vehicle modifies the suspension settings and tire pressure. This would ensure not only better traction, but also better performance. A direct connection to the battery also makes range data more accurate, taking into account every wheel movement.
Soon available for your tires?
The company is still in the development phase of this futuristic technology, but one day it intends to make it available to all consumers. For now, the Mint 400 will serve as a laboratory to test all aspects of the Volcon STV. After all, it's a pretty demanding sport for vehicles! With constant changes in speed and pavement types, it's a perfect environment to test the various features of the ActivAir.
So stay tuned! It probably won't be anytime soon, but we may find tires compatible with this technology on Blackcircles.ca in the future. We can only imagine how well the All Terrain T/A KO2s will perform with such a system. In the woods, off-road or even on the road in the middle of winter, your vehicle could intelligently adjust the pressure and suspension of each of your wheels independently. Unfortunately, such a feat is only a fantasy for Canadian motorists… at the moment at least!
