BFGoodrich cleans up the desert at the Dakar Rally

All tire manufacturers have - or at least say they have - a mission to make the environment cleaner and less polluted. Some companies, like BFGoodrich, have obviously taken this resolution to heart! Indeed, during the recent Dakar Rally, they were the ones who led a desert clean-up operation to preserve the local ecosystem. Partners of the event, which took place in Saudi Arabia between December 31 and January 15, since 2002, they also took charge of providing the drivers with more durable and ecological tires.

Why not in Dakar?

The question is: why is the famous Dakar Rally, formerly known as Paris-Dakar, not held in Dakar? If you don't follow the news on the subject, you may be surprised to learn that it hasn't been held in Senegal since 2007!

One of the most famous and remarkable rally events on the planet, the Dakar was first held in 1978. One of its remarkable points: you can participate in all kinds of vehicles such as motorcycles or mountain bikes. With the port of Algiers as a stopover, the integration of air connections has greatly facilitated travel over some impassable obstacles.

Unfortunately, terrorist threats will be the reason for the original Paris-Dakar route after almost 30 years of existence, in 2008. Mauritania being a country considered too dangerous for the pilots, it was preferred to transport the event to South America and, since 2019, to Saudi Arabia.

A real logistical ballet

Since the beginning of the rally, you will understand that the technology used has changed a lot! What started out as a group of road-crazy marginal drivers has quickly turned into a global event. To support the drivers, the organizers and the press, a large number of rescue, mechanical and transport teams are needed. Such a large number of people rarely go unnoticed, which is why BFGoodrich is committed to cleaning up the desert after them.

It's no wonder that even rally drivers rely on the quality of BFGoodrich tires. After all, the company has made its mark on the tire world, especially with its Winter T/A and Advantage line. I admit I've never driven across the desert in a car with them, but their superior technology and exclusive compound should be enough to convince you.
