While shopping for tires on Blackcircles.ca, you may have noticed our wide range of tire brand choices. Out of these nearly 30 manufacturers, it’s obvious that not all of them can match the reputation of Pirelli and Michelin. However, although some of these manufacturers are not well known in Canada, we believe that it would be a good idea to get to know them better! All over the world, from Japan to Belgium, these companies build specialized, quality tires that may well be the perfect choice for your next vehicle purchase. Without further ado, discover these brands that may have escaped you.
Minerva
Even though production of Minerva tires did not start until 1992, the Belgian company did not have to prove itself any more. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the brand, from its headquarters in Antwerp, was known for its luxury cars, whose quality was even compared to that of the Rolls-Royce, but whose price was much more affordable.
Today, their philosophy is still based on high quality at a low price, and this is reflected in the low rolling resistance and high stability at high speeds of their tires. Their range is also known for its very large-spoke tires for commercial vans and trucks.
Falken
Founded in Japan in 1983 as the high-performance branch of Ohtsu Tire and Rubber, the company is well known in the motorsport community. Their specialization in the creation of very high performance tires for the track is reflected even in their standard range, which is particularly effective at higher speeds.
Today, the company Falken is American, having become over time a branch of Sumimoto Rubber North America, and has been producing its tires in its Buffalo plant since 2016.
Laufenn
A little more recently, in 2013, the South Korean company Hancook Tires invested more than a billion dollars in a revolutionary factory in Indonesia. The goal? To offer efficient, no-frills and low-cost tires.
This is the motto behind the Laufenn range, available on the North American market since 2014. Of course, we are not talking about performance tires here, but about durable tires for everyday use and a smooth, stylish ride.
Nexen
The name, a mixture of the words “next” and “century”, reflects the goal of this South Korean company: to offer the tire of tomorrow. Founded in 1942 as Heung-A Tire Company, Nexen has been Korea’s leading tire manufacturer since 1956.
Dedicated primarily to the production of high-tech tires, the brand develops among others tires made of a patented material composed of rubber and silicate layers. The end product ensures a comfortable ride, but above all, outstanding stability.
Did you know them all? Whether you discovered them or rediscovered them, perhaps these companies with refreshing ideas have inspired you for your next purchase.
