At the end of June, I was extremely fortunate to be welcomed by GM to the motor city itself, Detroit, for the Canadian unveiling of the all-new Cadillac XT4 2024. The mid-size SUV is back with a vengeance this year, with numerous technical and aesthetic enhancements which I was able to witness first-hand, live from the company's studio. A gateway to luxury vehicles, we're told, this is a rather reasonably priced model: starting at $44,798 (plus fees) for the base version. I wasn't able to test-drive it, but equipped with Continental tires, it's sure to offer a dynamic driving experience!
What's new for 2024?
Although the trend is towards electrification, Cadillac is offering its fully gasoline-powered 2024 XT4, capable of developing 235 hp and 258 lb-ft, as a "transition vehicle". What exactly does that mean? Well, since not everyone is ready to switch to an EV, the XT4 has all the technology and futuristic design usually reserved for electrics, but with a conventional powertrain. Indeed, technology is at the heart of the experience, with a new 33" curved 9K screen being the real showstopper.
Another feature I quite enjoyed was the intelligent integration of the Google Assistant. Not only is it capable of searching the famous search engine for anything you ask, from restaurant suggestions to points of interest, it can also adjust the interior temperature and check the battery life. With so many technical improvements, it also needed an updated look, and here the XT4 impresses again. Available in two distinct appearances, one luxurious and the other sportier, it stands out, like all Cadillac models, with its massive grille and elegant silhouette. My favorite part? The Emerald Lake Metallic color of the sports model...
The XT4 2024 and its Continental
Of course, during the presentation I had to get down and kneel to observe the 2024's exclusive wheels and tires, Continental ProContact TXs. The latter is offered in the two sizes worn by the XT4, 18 and 20 inches, and provides both handling and grip. It's exactly what you need for a mid-size SUV that's equally at home on the highway or in urban environments. In fact, it was designed with cities like Montreal and Toronto in mind: big enough to hold luggage or groceries, but easy to park in small spaces. I'll have to try it out for sure, but the Cadillac XT4 seems a perfectly reasonable choice in its class... if your budget allows it!
