The Hankook tire company commissioned a study in the United States on driving. The basic principle is simple: the pandemic being what it is, drivers are bored and missing their wheel. And the results of the study tend to prove that they are right.
According to the survey, three out of four people polled say they are actually bored of their time behind the wheel. And 60% of drivers confirm that as soon as the pandemic is over, they will hit the road more often and longer than before.
During a standard period, 53% of people polled say they drive every day. During the pandemic period, only 1 in 5 people did the same. The reason: the closure of restaurants (73%) and shops (69% including my wife, but that’s another debate)!
Driving = escape
Taking the analysis further, Hankook experts found that 57% of respondents said their next vacation would be by car. Which, in clear terms, means that road trips will be far more popular than ever this summer.
Driving also offered a form of escape. Almost two-thirds (64%) of drivers say that driving gives them peace of mind, and as many (62%) say it relieves stress.
It must be said that most people find the car more comfortable than the plane (62% versus only 11%) and that 47% are eager to hit the road with their loved one. Some 18% prefer their children as travelling companions.
