Netflix to introduce a show about… tires?

This week's article is far from technical. In fact, it's probably more related to culture than cars, but you'll quickly see why today's topic deserves its spot on this blog! On May 23rd 2024, subscribers to the Netflix giant were given their first look at the first episode of the Tires series, whose title is quite evocative. Contrary to what you might think, this isn't a documentary about tire manufacturing at all. Rather, it's a humorous series with a mechanical flavour that should be of particular interest to car enthusiasts.

The classic story of a mechanic...

The show stars two cousins, Will (Steve Gerben) and Shane (Shane Gillis), who try to restore the family garage to its former glory. Of course, it's not all plain sailing, especially since Shane isn't the best worker... Preferring instead to approach pretty customers and discuss everything and anything, his... questionable... decisions lead the duo into some surprising twists and turns. You only have to watch the official trailer to understand!

Unfortunately, it's difficult for me to give you a more detailed review for the simple reason that the series has still not been broadcast at the time of writing. However, the promotional material makes it pretty clear that the automotive field will be at the center of the characters' preoccupations, although one of them would undoubtedly prefer to be elsewhere. Be sure that I will watch it as soon as it comes out next week!

A second season already on the way

The short series, only six episodes long, hasn't even officially launched yet, but Netflix has already confirmed that a second season is on the way. Without knowing the real ratings, the company obviously has enough confidence in the production team, which includes Shane Gillis himself, to grant them this mandate. This is the first series created by the American humorist whose recent success can be partly attributed to social media. He's well known on the web, notably for his routine about his Uncle Danny, who has Down's Syndrome, and his grilled cheese habits.

By the way, this isn't the comedian's first appearance on Netflix. If you like his humor, you'll no doubt be delighted to learn that his show Beautiful Dogs is available there in its entirety. His humor can also be found on Youtube and various podcast platforms. I can't guarantee relevance to the automotive industry, though! For that, you'll have to keep an eye on our blog
