Potholes? Why not a wheel that can absorb it?

The thaw period, even if it makes us forget the worries of winter, brings its share of problems. Including raging motorists with the presence of thousands of potholes all over the road.

Be frank, who among you did not have a startle of worry, and did not grit his teeth, while the tires of his car clashed with a little too much enthusiasm the edge of one of these holes that punctuate the streets?

Worst of all, at least once, everyone has had an explosive or slower puncture because the pothole in question offered more resistance than the rubber on your tires, causing cracks in the sole. , the side wall or smashing literally the edge of the rim, nothing less.

In short, everyone hates potholes but it seems that there is no way to avoid them. Some manufacturers may have found a solution. This is the case of Michelin who, failing to find the tire that resists everything, thought to create the wheel that absorbs shocks, the Michelin Acorus.

The idea is not new, but was developed in collaboration with Maxxion Wheels. It is simply a wheel assembly that makes the ride more comfortable for cars with low-profile tires, while avoiding excessive shocks.

The principle is relatively simple: it is an assembly that includes a traditional rim that adds two rubber straps, and a decorative element. When the wheel hits a pothole (or a sidewalk, but obviously you never do that), it is the rubber flange that deforms, avoiding direct contact with the rim.

This rigid rubber rim also absorbs road roughness when it is bad, and your low profile tires are no longer enough to act as a shock absorber. Fortunately, its rigidity does not impair the performance of sports tires.

Imagine, hitting a pothole without trembling with fear … admit that it’s tempting.
