Just by seeing its picture, car lovers will know what Volkswagen is trying to do with its ID. Buzz. Clearly inspired by the legendary Microbus Type 2, the new electric model attempts to blend past and future with classic styling, but decidedly modern technologies. The ID. Buzz will make its debut in Canada in 2024, and this July, we got to know what it will be sporting.
The upcoming Volkswagen will be equipped with Continental EcoContact 6 Q tires, which is not a surprising choice for the German company. It must be said that Continental already played an important role in the design and construction of the ID. Buzz. So it’s only natural that Continental also wanted to offer its expertise for the tires!
ContiSeal technology on the ID. Buzz
With a model like the new Volkswagen electric bus, to me, the real fun is in long-distance travel. Let’s just say that a road-trip is more easily undertaken in a Westfalia than in a Smart! That’s why durability was a particularly important factor in the choice of tires for the ID. Buzz. Another vital aspect is storage space, which is often reduced by the presence of a spare tire.
Continental’s answer is ContiSeal technology, a protective layer inside the inner tube that allows the tire to keep going even when damaged. According to the company, the membrane is capable of sealing 80% of holes up to five millimeters in size. The repair is not permanent, but it can get you out of trouble even if you’re in a remote area!
From the brakes to the on-board computer...
The collaboration between the two companies doesn’t stop at tires, though. Granted, I usually tell you more about Continental for their high-quality tubes, but that’s not all the German company designs. It’s also responsible for manufacturing many of the components of the ID. Buzz. For the wheels, they produce the speed sensors and brakes. They also produce the radar system, the seat positioning system and even the on-board computer.
Unfortunately, you can’t buy a Continental computer on Blackcircles.ca, at least not for the time being, so you’ll have to make do with their tires! Well, that said, the selection is quite varied and suitable for many types of vehicles. For standard cars, something like the Procontact is perfectly adequate. If you have a sportier or more luxurious model, you can also confidently turn to the ExtremeContact Sport or PureContact LS.
