For the moment, it’s not planned to come to the United States. But Canada could well see rolling the small Volkswagen ID.3, the new generation electric car that the German manufacturer will launch in Europe in mid 2020. And it is armed with  Continental EcoContact 6 summer and WinterContact TS 850P that the manufacturer will market his little car.

The models to be used on the four-door and five-passenger ID.3 have been adapted to the specific performance requirements of an electric vehicle like the ID.3, said Continental, and are built with the puncture-resistant system ContiSeal of the tire manufacturer, which includes inner lining technology.

VW offers the ID.3 with three battery options for standard batteries (up to 325 kilometers with a single charge), medium (up to 450 km) and long range (up to 550 km). But beware, these data are calculated according to the European method, which is much more optimistic than the one used here. We should talk about a difference of 30 to 35% less, at least, for Canada.

With exterior dimensions similar to those of the VW Golf (109-inch wheelbase and 781 lb. curb weight), the ID.3 offers a larger vehicle interior than any other vehicle in its class, said VW, partly due to the lack of a transmission tunnel.

Conti stated that the tires supplied provided low rolling resistance to allow maximum distance between loads. Rolling noise has also been reduced for passenger comfort, and an aerodynamic sidewall design has been implemented to help minimize aerodynamic drag on the vehicle.

The ID.3 is the first of at least 70 electric cars in the VW pipeline, said the automaker. It started moving out of the assembly line at a plant in Zwickau, Germany, in November, and in 2020, two factories in China will start producing.

Continental also provides the on-board server providing connectivity for Volkswagen’s electrical identity, at least in Europe.
