Already in the title, I've lied to you. I'm not going to tell you about the world's largest tire. In fact, it's already been the subject of one of my articles on this blog, quite recently in fact. The world's largest tire is the giant Uniroyal tire in suburban Detroit, built as a Ferris wheel for the 1964 New York World's Fair. Today, however, I've decided to turn my attention to real tires, i.e. tires designed to be mounted on vehicles of any kind. Here, you'll find some of the models we sometimes see on the road, and others that are a little less common!
The impressive Rolls-Royce Spectre
The touring car with the biggest tires on the market certainly had to live up to its reputation. So it's no surprise that it is in fact the Rolls-Royce Spectre, with its huge 295/35R23s measuring 31.1 inches in height and 11.6 inches in width. This tire size remains relatively common, and Blackcircles.ca keeps a considerable inventory of them, including the PZero PZ4 Luxury. A perfect choice for such a sedan!
Toyo Open Country M/T 385/70 R16
The largest tire available on Blackcircles.ca frankly surprised me. Designed for the toughest jobs and biggest trucks on the market, it's the Toyo Open Country M/T 385/70 R16. With a frankly gigantic 37.2-inch diameter, it's not recommended for everyday use, but could get you out of trouble when playing in the mud.
Firestone 70/70x57SRG: ultra-specialized
Now we're getting down to business. Have you heard of the LeTourneau L-2350? Far from being a common vehicle on the road, it's a 266-ton, 2,300-horsepower wheel loader that requires gargantuan tires. That's where Firestone comes in with its 70/70x57SRGs, 13 feet in diameter and 10 tons in weight, created exclusively for the LeTourneau model. Would you be willing to spend over $150,000 US for these monsters?
The 63-inch Titan
Through all the tires I've found during mt research, it's the Titan Tire Corporation that takes the cake with its 63-inch tires. I can already hear you wondering: 63 inches? That's smaller than the last model, isn't it? True, dear reader, but that's the size of the wheel! The inner tube itself is over 14 feet long! Also intended for heavy machinery, especially that used in mines and quarries, the tire is a little lighter. That's right, it weighs just 6.25 tons...
