I drove a Toyota Corolla Hybrid. And I liked it … I found great satisfaction, both behind the wheel and in terms of consumption. Which, I am sure, will surprise many readers for whom the Corolla is nothing exciting. To these people, I will say: see the 2020 version, you may be surprised!

The compact sedan whose silhouette, without being spectacular, has nothing of the boring version of previous years. We are talking here about a silhouette so much more dynamic, of a more modern look, and especially of a style that one does not confuse any more with the others. Today, the new Toyota Corolla has its own style that we recognize more easily.

And better yet, there is the hybrid version! A car that, without being a race car, offers more consistent starts than its gasoline counterpart. Which, after a few days of testing, also allows the motorist that I am not to open his wallet as often as before. Which, admit it, is a very good quality.

Under the hood, a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, paired with a small electric motor. The two engines combined offer a total of 121 horsepower and a torque of 105 lb-ft. After a week of testing, the reality struck me: an average of 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers.

Not just a mechanical deal

To help achieve these results, the Corolla Hybrid also relies on tires, not just on efficient mechanics. Toyota chose fuel-efficient tires with low rolling resistance for both conventional and hybrid vehicles.

The P195 / 65R15 tires were chosen precisely to maintain this low rolling, while ensuring the necessary softness and adhesion. Several manufacturers, including Bridgestone and Michelin, have offered tires for this car in accordance with fuel economy standards. Their rolling silence (thank you low friction) also makes the hike much more comfortable.

Driving the Corolla

The interior comfort of the comfort has been reviewed, the modernized accessories (although Android Auto still shines by its absence, to my great despair), and improved seats. In a nutshell, the new Corolla builds on the success of the old, and offers a definitely more pleasant environment.

Driving also the experience is more successful. Of course, it is not yet the thrill, but the accelerations are frank, the direction precise although not communicative, and we like to use the brakes which are much less spongy than in previous generations.

The Hybrid Synergy Drive maximizes start-up without compromising fuel economy and produces a more economical and direct urban ride. And as it should, the turning radius of the Corolla allows for maneuverability and maneuverability, even in the narrowest areas of the city center.

The Toyota Corolla 2020, in hybrid version, has everything you need to please. It has a certain charm, a pleasant driving, and above all, presents a truly impressive fuel economy. The 12th generation of the popular sedan has everything you need to please even the most demanding!
