For several years now, for both ecological and economic reasons, the world of the electric car has been in constant expansion. We love them for their silence on the road, their reduced emissions, but especially for their zero dollar gas bill! Recently, green vehicle enthusiasts have once again been shaken by some surprising news: the introduction of the Rivian line of trucks on the market.

Each new model generation brings its own set of technological improvements. Autonomy, top speed and quiet driving, manufacturers try by all means to optimize comfort and driving experience. This also involves the wheels! In fact, tires, by acting as the car’s sole point of contact with the ground, have a great impact on both energy consumption and stability. That’s why Rivian called on Pirelli, which has an excellent reputation for high-end tires.

This week, we learned more about this electrifying collaboration. The manufacturer also took the opportunity to unveil its new Elect variants of the Scorpion Verde, Zero and off-road models. Thanks to an advanced rubber compound, Pirelli has succeeded in reducing more than ever the noise of their tires but especially their rolling resistance. This last detail is not insignificant! Some studies even claim that a vehicle equipped with low-resistance tires could consume up to 10% less fuel.

A new size that ensures stability

The Rivian platform is the result of several years of research to develop the electric truck of the future. While its modern styling is already evident in the front grille, its axles reveal even more. With a view to stabilizing the vehicle in all conditions and for all uses, Pirelli and Rivian went so far as to create a tire size unique to the brand: the 275 55R21. Wider and thicker, they offer better handling while maintaining the advantages of Pirelli rubber.

We will surely learn more about the Elect line and the 275 55R21 in the coming months. For the moment, we don’t even know their marketing prices. One thing is certain, however: they will mark a turning point in the history of the electrical industry. Who knows what the future holds in terms of autonomy. It’s up to Pirelli to tell us!
