To conclude our road-trip in the Maritimes in style, we saved the most eastern continental peninsula of the country for last: Nova Scotia. With its history dating back to the colonial era and its striking natural landscapes, it is a mix of urban and outdoor life that is not to be missed. So buckle up and don’t forget to put some air in your tires, we’re off on an adventure!
Cape Breton Island
In the north of the province lies one of Canada’s most overlooked tourist gems: Cape Breton Island. Formerly known as Isle Royale, it’s a great place to start exploring the local culture. Are you an outdoor enthusiast? With 26 hiking trails, Cape Breton Highlands National Park will allow you to reconnect with nature. And for a breath of sea air, we recommend one of the many whale-watching cruises in one of the best places in the country. Apparently, you can even see dolphins…
If you prefer history, there are several stops you should make during your stopover. The Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site will take you through the life of the inventor. After all, he did much more than make the telephone! A hundred kilometers to the southeast, a true journey back to the 1700s awaits you at the Fortress of Louisbourg. Get ready for an immersive experience!
Navigate the Cabot Trail
What makes Cape Breton Island so enjoyable to visit is the impressive panorama offered by the world-famous Cabot Trail. Almost 300 km long, it forms a loop that connects all the attractions of northern Cape Breton while offering breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. A flat tire in such a setting will undoubtedly ruin the atmosphere, so you’ll need a tire with a durable tread! How about a Yokohama Geolandar, or even a General Tire Altimax tire?
Discovering the Capital, Halifax
As usual, a tour of the capital city is necessary to get a feel for the local lifestyle. Drive along the four-kilometre waterfront promenade and you’ll see just about everything the city has to offer! Start your Haligonian (yes, that’s the word) adventure at the Canadian Museum of Immigration and end your day at a restaurant overlooking the ocean. If you’re the type to brave the waters, we also recommend a guided cruise of Halifax Harbour and Georges Island. Another National Historic Site to check off your list!
It’s already the end of our trip in the Maritimes, but luckily we still have many provinces to visit! On the way home, give your passengers time to rest by opting for vibration-reducing tires. Toyo Proxes 4 Plus, for example, have a specially designed tread pattern to minimize noise while maximizing handling. After such a long trip, they’ve earned it! Next stop, the second most populated province in the country…
