. It’sJuly is the month of vacations. We all want to go on an adventure. At Blackcircles.ca, we share your love of discovery and the pleasure of riding. That’s why we’re presenting a series of articles this summer to help you discover the most beautiful roads in the country, province by province. Happy driving!
Are you ready to continue your Blackcircles.ca Canadian adventure? After visiting Newfoundland, it’s time to discover another maritime province: Prince Edward Island! Even though it is by far the smallest province in the country, it’s still chock-full of activities, culture and breathtaking scenery that make it a perfect vacation destination. Now is time to check your tire pressure and get ready for an unforgettable road trip to the red sand island!
Confederation Bridge
At 13 km long, this toll bridge completed in 1997 is the only way to access the island by road. Luckily, it is also a very pleasant way! During the ten-minute crossing, you will be able to observe the Canadian coastline from a unique point of view before you even begin your visit. Once in Borden-Carleton, stop at the Port Borden wharf for your first seafood meal and a great photo opportunity.
Prince Edward Island is one of the most easterly points in the country, so you’ll probably have to travel hundreds, if not thousands, of kilometers to get there. For this kind of long distance, you need to be well prepared! We recommend tires like the BFGoodrich Advantage Control: solid, but above all capable of providing excellent traction on any road surface.
Gourmet discoveries
Throughout the Maritimes, seafood is at the heart of the local cuisine, but not the only one! In addition to fresh oysters and lobsters, the island is rich in quality products that you can cook yourself, enjoy in restaurants or even take home. The best way to do all three at once is to follow the Island of Delights Flavor Trail. Stop at a farm (why not a potato farm?) and finish your day at the best table in town. Enjoy the local flavours in an enchanting setting. Our recommendation? The Dunes Studio Gallery & Cafe, located in the small town of Brackley Beach. The crab cakes are breathtaking!
To maximize the enjoyment of your culinary adventure around the province, the ride should be comfortable! Choosing tires designed to optimize stability and reduce vibration, like Michelin’s Primacy line, will undoubtedly enhance your trip. 20% quieter than the average tire, believe us, you’ll notice the difference!
Visit Anne and her home
An iconic character in Canadian literature, the story of the little orphan girl Anne has succeeded in bringing Prince Edward Island into the popular imagination. To this day, you can visit the Green Gables heritage site in Cavendish. It’s probably the most famous farm on the island. Anne’s story is fictional, but the building that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery is real! Combining a museum with an interpretive center opening in 2020, it will help you discover this classic children’s book in a whole new light.
Back to Charlottetown
After learning more about the rural life of the Islanders, it’s time to head to the capital city of Charlottetown. From modern art galleries to the historic Beaconsfield House, the city has no shortage of cultural life. It’s also a great place for window shopping. The downtown area is filled with stores as varied as their displays are beautiful! From handicrafts to fine foods, it’s where you’ll find the best that the region has to offer. Plus, since everything is within walking distance, you can easily leave your car and discover the charm of the area on foot. After all this distance, you deserve it!
Although we are far from having presented everything one can do on Prince Edward Island, it is unfortunately already time to leave for our new destination. Curious? Here’s a hint: it’s on the other side of the bridge…
